Accessibility at sky wave gin
We take accessibility for all our visitors very seriously at Sky Wave Gin for our Distillery Experiences, bar and shop. We have ensured the following is in place:
Transport and Parking
If coming by car, please go to the main entrance of Bicester Heritage on Buckingham Road, with the barriers and guard hut, just off the ring road roundabout (not the airfield entrance on Skimmingdish Lane). Tell the gate guards you are coming to Sky Wave Gin and they will let you in. (Don't let them tell you to use a different entrance! Sometimes there are temporary gate staff who have not been briefed. The only entrance is the main gate on Buckingham Road!) We are then just 100m straight ahead up the main avenue up the centre of the site, until you can't go any further, on the left hand side.
We are also easily accessible by train from London, Birmingham and Oxford. Bicester North and Bicester Village are just a 5 and 10 minute taxi ride away, respectively. Book via Alpha Cars on 01869 252525 or Bicester Cars 01869 247247.
If you need to park close to us, it is possible to park immediately outside if necessary. Alternatively, passengers can be dropped off at the door with drivers parking in the designated car park.
Entrances
The entrance to the bar and shop (where the Distillery Experiences are hosted) is fully accessible with no steps or a need for a ramp. The entrance to the distillery has a slight lip, but wheelchair users have reported that it is still perfectly accessible. Doors open inwards and are 84cm wide.
Bar Height
The bar has a height of 110cm. If this is too high for some visitors, the staff will come to you to serve you.
Accessible Toilets
As a WWII listed site, there are no toilets in the bar or distillery itself. There are two toilet blocks on site, both of which are accessible. Please ask staff for directions, and a notice with directions is also posted by the door in the bar.
Seating
All seating is supportive, with chairs with backs. Some stools may be high for some people, but individual chairs and a banquette are also available. Chairs can be moved to allow wheelchair users to sit at tables.
Sound
The bar has a nice ambience and there is very little echo. Music is played at a discrete level, but this can be turned down further, or turned off, on request.
Our Distillery Experience hosts are experienced in presenting in an accessible manner. If visitors have any particular needs, please make them known at the time or in advance, and the Distillery Experience hosts will accommodate reasonable requests.
Lighting
The bar is well lit, although lights are dimmed in the evening. Lights do not flicker. Please let staff know if you need the lighting to be adjusted.
Temperature
The bar and distillery are kept at an acceptable temperature, but please speak to a member of staff if you would like adjustments.
Dietary and Allergen Matters
All our gins are gluten free and vegan friendly. However, we also serve snacks and other drinks in the bar which may contain allergens, and use garnishes which may be problematic for some people. Please speak to the staff if you have any dietary or allergen concerns.
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Emergency procedures will be explained on arrival at Distillery Experiences, and there is a notice inside the door of the bar. The emergency muster point is fully accessible and not far from the distillery and bar. The staff will assist visitors where necessary.
Assistance Dogs
Assistance dogs are of course welcome at Distillery Experiences, and in the shop and bar. Please be aware that the bar can become busy.
Branding and Colour Palette
Our branding colours are ombréd Dark Blue (Pantone 274; hsb: 243, 73, 45; #231f74; rgb: 35, 31, 116) to Turquoise (Pantone 3262; hsb: 179, 87, 74; #19bcb9; rgb: 25, 188, 185). We use gold or white lettering throughout. We believe this is accessible to most people, but will try to accommodate with advance notice if not.
Please note that our Distillery Experiences do not currently use any presentational material.
